MAIJA’S STORY

I’m a 6’3″ six-rotation Outside/Opposite. I led my high school team to #2 and #6 finishes at the state tournament and was named to the All-State First Team. As team captain, I was named an MVP and hold my high school record for all time kills at 1,076 which I accomplished in 3 years.
For club, I played with Idaho Crush and NPJ Forefront, a Pacific Northwest All-Star team ranked #11 nationally by USAV. My club teams have won four national qualifying open division tournaments, and I’ve been recognized as a PrepVolleyball 18U All-American, AVCA All-Region selection, and MaxPreps National Player of the Week.
I started playing volleyball when I was eight and fell in love with the intensity and the way it challenges you mentally and physically. I love being part of a team that pushes each other and plays for something bigger than themselves.
I chose the University of Washington because of the competitive environment, the coaching staff, and the culture. From the start, the coaches believed in me and created a space where I could grow as a player and a person. I wanted to be part of that.

WHY ULTRA ANKLE?

I have been using Ultra Ankle braces for a few years now and they’ve been a game-changer. I’ve had multiple ankle sprains and even hairline fractures in the past, but since wearing these braces, I haven’t had any issues. They’re comfortable, super stable, and still let me move how I need to on the court. I like that I can just slide them on, there’s no laces or weird straps, and they stay secure the whole time. They’re lightweight too, so they don’t hold me back when I’m jumping or changing direction. I’d definitely recommend them to any athlete who wants strong ankle support without the bulk.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT PLAYING FOR UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON?

The best part of playing for UW is being around teammates who are all working hard and pushing each other to get better every day. The coaches create a culture where growth and accountability matter, and the energy in the gym is awesome. It’s a really supportive environment where everyone pushes each other to improve. I’m proud to represent UW and compete at such a high level.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUNG PLAYERS IN YOUR SPORT?

Stay focused and keep your mindset strong – volleyball is as much mental as it is physical. Learn to manage pressure and stay present during every play. Always keep learning more about the sport, whether it’s new techniques or strategies. And most importantly, be a good teammate. Support those around you, communicate, and lift each other up – because volleyball is a team game, and the best teams win together.
